The British Lymphology Society welcomes Dancing on Ice and chat show queen, Trisha Goddard as a Patron of their charity, as it launches biggest ever awareness campaign, #EveryBodyCan.
Trisha developed Lymphoedema in her arm after undergoing treatment for breast cancer in 2008 and now wears a compression sleeve. You’ll have seen her wearing a sleeve on Dancing on Ice, the costume department made a pink chiffon cover for her sleeve to match her costume.

Lymphoedema is thought to affect over 400,000 people in the UK and the number is rising. It is chronic swelling caused by a failure of the lymphatic system. Around 20% of those treated for breast cancer develop lymphoedema and it is a complication of several other types of cancers. It can occur for other reasons and at any age.
Although not curable, lymphoedema can be controlled and managed, particularly if recognised early. Unfortunately, it is poorly recognised or understood and often diagnosed late, when it is more difficult to treat and a good outcome less likely.
Trisha Goddard said“I’m so glad to be supporting the BLS and their EveryBodyCan campaign. I’ve kept active throughout my cancer and lymphoedema treatments and I can positively say that it has made all the difference to my mental and physical health. I make sure I wear my compression sleeve when doing anything that will impact my left arm like carrying heavy shopping, weight-training and air travel.”
EveryBodyCan
The British Lymphology Society is a charity that raises awareness of Lymphoedema and supports research, so that patients can manage their condition and live their lives to the full. For Lymphoedema Awareness Week 2020 (2nd – 8th March), it has launched its biggest ever awareness campaign called EveryBodyCan.
Being active can really help with lymphoedema, because when you move small and large muscle groups, you help the failing lymphatic system clear fluid from the affected area. That’s why The BLS is encouraging patients to add a little extra activity into their day to get that lymph moving.
Margaret Sneddon, Vice Chair of the BLS said"We are delighted to have Trisha on board with the BLS and our EveryBodyCan campaign. She embodies everything that we want to see for our patients, managing her lymphoedema and living life to the fullest".
