Sunday workshops only: A not to be missed FREE opportunity!
BLS are delighted to be able to announce that we are providing free tickets to attend the Afternoon Workshops at the Yarnfield Conference Centre on the Sunday 1st October starting at 2 pm.
Why not come along to conference earlier or pass on this information to your colleagues who perhaps can’t attend the whole event?
The three workshops are designed to be a great introduction to various aspects of lymphoedema care and the BLS would welcome the attendance of members and non-members who would be interested to attend the three-afternoon sessions.
The Sunday programme will start at 2 pm with a Welcome, opening of the session to set the scene for the afternoon.
The first workshop will be at 2:30 pm and will be entitled “Obesity and Chronic Oedema” hosted by Vaughan Keeley, Royal Derby Hospitals.
The second session will be at 3:30 pm and will be entitled “Exercise, yoga and Lymphoedema” hosted by BLS award winners Mary Warrilow, Kris Jones and the LymphCare UK yoga trainer.
The third workshop will be at 4.30pm entitled “Common skincare conditions associated with chronic oedema”. Speaker Dr Sharaf Eldin Independent practitioner in Dermatology at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
These workshops have been specially tailored to meet the needs of those qualified or unqualified health care professionals who encounter chronic oedema but treating it is not their main role. This will undoubtedly include district, community and practice nurses, Tissue Viability, Dermatology, vascular, podiatry and Oncology practitioners as well as Lymphoedema assistant/associate practitioners (band 3/4) and Healthcare Assistants. (HCA)
Registration from 1.30pm

The condensed 2-day event was a success with the delegates with 57% rating 2 days as their preferred option and a BLS review in the Winter “News and Views” supports this: “The conference format was changed this year, running over two full days instead of the normal three . . . As regular delegates of the BLS conference we felt this was much better”. However BLS has listened to the feedback from the corporate members and as a result the Sunday evening “Meet the exhibitors” buffet will be reinstated for 2017.
The BLS conference however will remain a 2-day event and will officially open on the Monday morning at 09:00 and will include invited speakers and abstract presentations. Professor Sahar Mansour has already confirmed her attendance to cover topics including the genetic screening process, national databank details and gene related syndromes and conditions with lymphoedema. There will also be an expert panel and delegates will be given the chance to submit questions prior to the event and it is hoped the focus session this year will be held jointly with the Tissue Viability Society. . . more details to follow.
The Sunday afternoon and evening will see BLS launch a series of 3 workshops aimed at health care assistants (Band 3 and 4) and generic staff including district nurses, community nurses and our tissue viability colleagues, followed by the “Meet the exhibitors” buffet. We will provide more information on this as it is confirmed.
